Well, hello there!

I know, I know; it's been so long - it's been quite the past couple of weeks. Between settling in, taking intensive French classes last week, and starting "real" classes this week, time has disappeared rapidly. It is already the second day of September. What kind of Parisian time-traveling alternate reality am I living in?

One of the reasons that I am actually getting to write now is that I'm a bit captive: I'm on the train to Belgium to go visit my friends Kathleen and Parker, who in a marvelous coincidence of timing moved there back in February. Naturally, I've wanted to see them ever since arriving in Europe, and I realized that this was an ideal week: while things are a little slower, and before Saturday classes and midterms take over my life.

(Did I mention I'm taking eight courses this semester? This is not going to be any sort of easy master's program.)

But more importantly, I found cheap train tickets, and by this point now, I'm almost there. Man, Europe's pretty great.

I've really enjoyed my time over here thus far. I've settled in a lot better and gotten more adjusted to the fact that I just don't speak French yet. I'm starting to pick up on some stuff, of course, but golly, the French speak so fast.

It's also been really great to meet the other students. Everyone has been so welcoming and excited to make new friends that there have been a lot of group activities (i.e. drinking 3-euro wine along the Seine as the sun sets).

So I promise to update with more exciting photos and stories soon (I've already seen TWO former coworkers in Paris - familiar faces have been a welcome sight) But it's a good thing that I haven't been bored or lacking things to do, right?

Bonne soirée for now!
