Good weekend / bad weekend

Well, this weekend started off well - because who doesn't love the prospect of Halloween and a four-day weekend all in one?! Then on top of that, my friend Izzy from Santa Clara was coming from London to visit Salamanca.

Bad weekend: Izzy lost her wallet on Thursday evening, the same day that she arrived. We don't know exactly what happened, whether she dropped it or if it were actually stolen from her purse. Either way, along with it, she lost the 300 Euro that was in there. Though pickpocketing is pretty common in all of Spain and Europe, too, none of us in IES have ever lost anything (unlike what I've heard from students in Barcelona). It was an unfortunately surprising and stressful downer to begin Izzy's two days here. Poor Izzy.

Good weekend: Friday night, we met up with some friends to get tapas. This was exciting because not only had Izzy never gone before, but shockingly, neither had I, even after two months in Spain (Basa gives me three meals a day; I'm not going to go spend my precious dinero on something I already get for free). But since Izzy was here, it was worth a journey because it really is a very Spanish activity.
Best part of tapas: we found a Mexican restaurant! It was probably not that great by American standards, but we were thrilled. Guacamole. Ahhhhhhhh. See, Spaniards don't like spicy food. Therefore, they don't like Mexican food. Therefore, none of us had eaten anything even resembling Mexican food for two months. We practically licked the bowl clean, I swear.

Later that night, we went to this one bar (Sorry, this may be startling for anyone who still thinks of me as a four-year-old...), which has always been one of my favorites, one of the most important reasons for which is the music it plays. A lot of the bars here play mostly American Top 40 music, such as Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, and everything else that's predictable. Yawn. But not only was the music in Country up to its usual high standard, they even played the Arcade Fire - twice. Within 20 minutes.

Why, yes, I am completely predictable. You know that I was ecstatic. And then the next night, the same thing happened. I officially have a favorite bar. Salamanca's a good place. I promise. I hope Izzy realized this...
