No, it's not that way by choice: we're currently at 21 hours without power here on Tenley Campus.
See, it started early yesterday when people were saying that it was going to snow 5-7 inches in the evening. Washington is notorious for freaking out at the smallest snowfall, so everyone from New England and Norway was laughing at the news reports of a severe weather warning. The sleet started after class got out around 3, and by 5, it was full-on snowing.

Fortunately, the emergency generator kept going, so while our rooms may have been pitch black, the halls had light and outlets that even worked. So, it was a great location for everyone to go hang out in the middle of the hall and talk about how we were going to be living Lord of the Flies if we didn't get the power back soon. All complaining aside, it was a nice opportunity to stop our busy busy-ness and get to know people on the floor a little better.
Miraculously, we still had wireless access, so we were still able to have the essentials (i.e. Facebook) and read exciting emails, such as, "Hey, you've got no power, but there's still class tomorrow!" Thanks, professor. But at the very least we didn't have to even leave the building for class, since these east coast buildings have secret little passageways between them, allowing you to still go to breakfast in your pajamas, even with a ton of snow outside (oh, college life).
Aghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. A girl just stopped by my friends' room, where I'm currently sitting, and told us that we won't get power back until late Friday night at the earliest. I want a shower so badly.
I still love the snow, though. Everything is so pretty and white, so I'm still excited. You can't break my spirits that easily : )
