Hasta luego, Salamanca

I have officially left Salamanca. Heartbreak. Or maybe weird is more appropriate. I just don't believe that I'm really gone. I'm sure subconsciously, a small part of my mind believes that I'll be back on Monday, that right now I'm just taking another weekend trip.

Instead, I'm on a two-week trip - which will end with my arrival in California! Dad came to Salamanca on Thursday, so he got to meet Basa and some of my friends here, and we went to tapas for dinner. It's been entertaining, since Dad knows no Spanish whatsoever, so I get to be translator/overall Spain expert. No pressure.

Thursday night was also the giant end-of-year party for the university students. When everyone goes home for winter break, they don't get to celebrate New Year's Eve with all their college friends, so a University New Year's Eve (Nochevieja) has been taking place for the past few years. Essentially, it's a giant party in the Plaza Mayor - with students from all over Spain coming to celebrate. Apparently, 35,000 showed up on Thursday night, despite freeeeeezing cold weather. But it was worth it, and it was especially special for me, since it was my last night there.

Then, yesterday, we headed out from Salamanca on a bus to Madrid and then took a fast train to Cordoba, where we currently are. We just went today to the cathedral (converted mosque), which is really famous, and I was thrilled to see it. Despite being jaded with standard cathedrals, the converted mosques are much more unique and exciting, so shockingly, I took about 10 million pictures.

Anyways, my laptop is about to die, so I will despedirme now. Tomorrow, we're stopping in Sevilla on our way to Tarifa, which is just across the Strait of Gibraltar from ... Morocco!!!!
